Measure in a straight line from the centre of the chest, along the side of the horse, to the point of the rump. Keep the tape level and the horse standing square.

Measure an existing girth that fits, buckle end to buckle end, not around the horse. A girth is sold by its own length.

Measure over the shirt you would normally ride in, not over a coat. Chest is around the fullest part with the tape level under the arms; waist is around the natural waist, which is the narrowest point, without pulling the tape tight.

Measure around the fullest part of the chest with the tape level and under the arms, over the shirt you would normally ride in.

Measure the foot flat on the floor at the end of the day, when it is at its largest. Calf is the widest point with the sock and breeches you ride in on, and boot height is the floor to just under the back of the knee.
